Obituary

Edward D. McBride died at home on January 29, 2022. Beloved husband of 48 years to Catherine Morris McBride. Cherished father of Jennifer (Brian) Sminkey, Lisa (Jim) Woodcock, Katy (Tom) O’Gara. Adoring Grandfather of Georgia,Declan, Marin Sminkey, Emma Woodcock, Michael, Joe, Brendan, and Maeve O’Gara. Loving brother to Gary, David (Sherry), Margie, and Danny (Kathy) McBride. Caring brother-in-law to Joe & Bobbie Morris, Anna Morris, Mary & Peter Alafoginis, George & Margaret Morris, Margaret & Bruce Beutler, Joan and Kevin Knee,Clare & Jim Chakey, Trish and Mike Lyons, Theresa & Chuck Freeman. Ed leaves 52 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Ed just celebrated 52 years of employment at PECO Energy where he was often referred to as “The Mayor”. Ed made retirement plans for March 31st but you know what happens when you make plans…Ed’s career exposed him to many impressive opportunities. He was the current recipient of the Golden Heart of Variety Club, an inductee to Chaplain of the Four Chaplains, Board President at Nazareth Hospital, Founder of the IGA Federal Credit Union, Member of the Ring of Honor for the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He was also a Board member of the Fireman’s Hall Museum and the Northeast Chamber of Commerce. Ed proudly served in the US Army from 1969-1975.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday, February 3, from 5-8 pm, at Stretch Funeral Home in Havertown, and Mass of Christian Burial at Our Mother of Good Counsel on Friday at 10:30 am.
